Permanent Improvements
Permanent Improvements (PI)
Thanks to our supportive community, two separate 1-mill levies generate approximately $1.8 million annually dedicated exclusively to maintaining and upgrading our district's assets.
What are Permanent Improvements?
In Ohio public schools, "Permanent Improvement" funds have a specific legal definition: they can only be used for assets with an estimated useful life of five years or more. You can think of this as the district's "Capital Expenditure" budget. These dollars cannot be used for salaries or benefits; they are strictly for the tangible items that keep our schools safe, modern, and operational.
We view these funds as one strategic "bucket." Rather than siloing money into rigid categories, we prioritize our spending every year based on the most critical needs of our students and facilities.
Our Top Priorities
While needs change, our primary focus areas remain consistent.
Transportation
Ensuring safe travel for every student is paramount. We use PI funds to maintain a modern fleet, purchasing at least two new buses per year.
- New School Buses
- Student Transport Vans
- Maintenance Trucks & Vehicles
Technology
Preparing students for the future requires robust infrastructure. We invest heavily in the hardware and networks that power modern learning.
- Staff Devices
- Network Infrastructure
- Interactive Classroom Displays
Curriculum
"Textbooks" have evolved. PI funds support major curriculum purchases, including physical books, digital licenses, and learning materials.
- New Textbook Adoptions
- Digital Learning Licenses
- Educational Resources
Protecting Our Facilities
Beyond the "Big Three," a significant portion of PI revenue is dedicated to the physical maintenance of our buildings and grounds. These essential projects protect the community's investment in our schools.
PI Board Presentations
Transparency is key to maintaining our community's trust. The Treasurer's Office and Business Services Department regularly present detailed updates to the Board of Education, outlining completed projects, upcoming capital needs, and the strategic use of PI funds.
